All Local Authorities are required under the Children Act 2004 to have a Local Safeguarding Children Board. Working Together to Safeguard Children 2010 states 'The LSCB is the key statutory mechanism for agreeing how the relevant organisations in each local area co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in that locality, and for ensuring the effectiveness of what they do'. The LSCB is part of the wider context of children's trust arrangement that aim to improve the overall wellbeing of all children in its area.
The Statutory members of the Board include Childrens Services, Primary Care Trusts, NHS Trusts, Police, Probation, CAFCASS and the Youth Offending Team.
Other agencies are invited to attend or sit on sub groups to contribute when necessary.
The Southampton Safeguarding Children Board work closely with three other local area LSCB's, and are part of a cohort called the 4LSCB. Central Policies and Procedures are overarching for the four areas. In addition to this, policies and good practice are shared closely.
Tasks of the SSCB
