The SSCB is supported by an Independent Chair, Board Manager and Business Coordinator.
Independent Chair of the SSCB
Each LSCB must appoint a Chair who has a crucial role in making sure that the Board operates effectively and secures an independent voice for the SSCB. In Southampton Donald McPhail is the Independent Chair.
SSCB Board Manager
Jennie Harmston is the Board Manager for the SSCB whose role is to advise and support the Board and its sub-committees. Jennie’s role is to ensure that outcomes are reached in relation to safeguarding children in Southampton, by driving forward the business of the Board.
SSCB Business Coordinator
Jane Evans is the Business Coordinator for the SSCB. She is responsible for supporting the business elements of the Board, this involves supporting the Board Manager and the sub committees and chairs to ensure that they function effectively alongside clearly documented workstreams and centrally managed information.
Partnership Links
Although the SSCB is independent from any of the partner agencies, the Children Act 2004 requires the City Council as a Local Authority to establish an LSCB. The Statutory Board is serviced and supported by the City Council's Democratic Service along with other statutory partnerships that the Local Authority has a duty to ensure are in place, as as the Childrens and Young People's Trust, Safe City Partnership and the Health & Wellbeing Board which provides useful strategic overviews & links.
Relationship of the LSCB with the Childrens Trust
The LSCB has a seperate identity and independent voice within the Children & Young People's Trust arrangements and has a standing membership of the Trust. The LSCB role is to ensure the effectiveness of the Childrens Trust arrangements made by wider partnership individual agencies to safeguard & promote the welfare of children.
